Date of Project 2026

Travellers are looking for more than a place to stay — but for an experience that creates a deeper sense of connection. This project applied neuroaesthetics and sensory science to shape the guest journey.

Insight

74% of travellers say experiences centred around shared passions and community deepen their sense of connection and purpose.

(Design Hotels, Future of travel, 2025)

This reflects a broader shift in hospitality - from accommodation to experience.

Llys Meddyg is a hotel with a strong visual identity and a genuine sense of place. The opportunity was not to redesign it, but to deepen how it is experienced - strengthening connection, restoration, and a sense of meaning throughout the stay.

Approach

A science-led approach was used to map the guest journey across four stages — Arrival, Transition, Immersion, Expansion.

The focus was on creating sensory coherence, aligning light, sound, material, scent, and spatial layout to support how guests feel and behave.

Alongside this, experiences were designed to foster a sense of awe and community - strengthening connection both to the landscape and culture.

Rather than redesigning the space, the project refined how it functions - allowing each space to more effectively support its intended experience.

Impact

This shift created a greater connection - to the space, to others, and to the surrounding landscape — strengthening both social experience and sense of place.

Shared spaces feel more intuitive and comfortable to inhabit, reducing self-consciousness and encouraging guests to linger, engage, and form a natural sense of community.

The result is a stay that feels more connected, more restorative, and more meaningful — shaping how the experience is felt and remembered.
