Fotografiska

In a world of fragmented attention, experiences that encourage presence and deeper engagement are becoming increasingly valuable. The Art & Mindfulness Night Academy, launched by Fotografiska, explores the intersection of art, attention, and wellbeing — creating a public programme designed to foster more mindful ways of engaging with artistic work while bridging cultural practice with scientific insight.

Insight

The series was designed to encourage audiences to engage with art more mindfully, while highlighting the growing body of research linking creative engagement with psychological and emotional health.

Art has a unique capacity to shape attention, emotion, and perception — an impact long understood intuitively, and increasingly supported by scientific research. The challenge was to bring together perspectives from neuroscience, arts & medicine, embodiment, and artistic practice into a cohesive cultural format that could resonate across diverse audiences.

Approach

In collaboration with Global VP of Brand Yousef Mahmouddah, I co-curated a multidisciplinary programme of artists, scientists, and practitioners.

I contributed a research-led talk exploring how aesthetic experiences affect the brain and long-term wellbeing, including a live demonstration of EEG and heart-rate responses to the work of James Nachtwey.

This bridged subjective artistic experience with measurable physiological data.

Impact

The event sold out and generated strong audience engagement, with attendees highlighting the value of connecting artistic intuition with scientific validation.

The programme received coverage in tip Berlin, where I was interviewed, and I was invited onto German public broadcaster rbb to represent the event, demonstrating EEG brainwave recording technology in front of artworks on live television.
