6 International Design Awards in the first year of launch: Rollr is an experience-led, sustainable deodorant designed to transform an everyday product into a daily sensory ritual.

Insight

Personal care products are typically designed around function and efficiency, with limited attention given to the sensory experience of use.

The challenge was to elevate Rollr beyond functionality by shaping how the product feels, smells, and interacts with the body - creating a more intuitive, pleasurable, and emotionally engaging daily ritual.

Approach

I collaborated on the development of the sensory strategy, applying neuroaesthetic principles to guide decisions across scent, materiality, and physical interaction.

This included shaping the fragrance direction using research on olfaction, emotion, and memory, contributing to the development of the mandarin and vetiver scent profiles. I also advised on tactile design - including curvature, ridging, and material finish - to enhance grip, comfort, and perceived quality in hand.

A key focus was aligning sensory cues across scent, touch, and form, ensuring the product felt coherent and intuitive in use, and reducing cognitive friction within the daily routine.

Impact

Rollr launched with 6 International Design Awards in its first year, successfully positioning itself as the first experience-led deodorant within a highly functional category.

The sensory strategy helped shape a product that feels distinct in use, strengthening emotional connection and elevating everyday interaction.

It also provided a clearer narrative for communicating the product - shifting it from a functional necessity to a designed experience.

  • “Saskia’s work on scent and sensory detail was essential in making something new feel intuitive, pleasurable and a daily ritual.”
